The Javan Myna chirps outside my window,
Cocks its crown and flits away.
That’s when I feel grateful
Gazing and savouring some quietude.
The Marina Reservoir guzzles up some more raindrops,
Sprawls placidly, beneath my ninth floor wall
That’s when I feel grateful
Dreaming I’m on the deck of a royal cruise.
The azure lofty skies
Changing patterns every twilight
That’s when I feel grateful
Raising my eyes to their ethereal hues.
The birds, the skies, the water
Five elements, all still in their elements
That’s when I feel grateful
Though climate change is in view.
Temperature surge, war-locked nations
Greedy hearts, jealous fellow-men
But I still feel hopeful
That nature shall strive and thrive through.
