No steam let out – Extraordinary Service by good old Philips!


With a lot of apprehension, I called up #Philips Customer Care when my steam iron just wouldn't 'let out steam'! 

1 "No proof of purchase, no warranty registration", I told them sincerely. 

2 They could have simply refused service. Instead, they asked me for the serial number and themselves confirmed that the product is under warranty!

3 The lady also caringly said to hurry up to the Customer Service Centre since the warranty was going to expire in a fortnight. 

4 Yes, it was a pain carrying the product and searching for their office, but I do enjoy exploring new corners and nooks of beautiful #Singapore by public transport (#MRT). 

5 Entered a pleasant Customer Service office, was attended to immediately, asked to leave the product and expect a response in three to five working days. 

6 But the very next day I got a response from them that they are going to replace the product (worth around $250 when I bought it), since the spare part was no longer available. I was delighted! 

7 Meantime, I had to buy another clothes iron, a basic model, in order to avoid expensive laundry services. (I calculated that it’s cheaper to buy a basic iron than ironing services even for a single day!)

8 The product had lasted me almost two years anyway, but like an icing on the cake,  they even messaged to ask me if I am 'okay' with a model newer than what I had purchased! But of course I'm okay!

9 I think in a week's or ten day’s time I got their message to collect the new product. I got four messages for this!

10 As expected, they did not give me another two-year warranty, but just extended it to two months as #goodwill.

11 Philips, thank you, I have grown up seeing your logo on my uncle’s bicycle (in the 80s), my first music system, my hair straightener, grinder, etc, etc. 130 years of people-focused innovation indeed! And this is not a paid marketing article!!



Now to decide what to do with the iron I had purchased for the interim period!!
